Ah! The summer! The holiday season, wonderful memories that become part the lives of everyone, especially the young. We all have great memories of our childhood, memorable summers, or meetings forever engraved in our heart. Family life sometimes needs a little spice in our new trendy lifestyle. It seems that entertaining young people in these digitized time is more complicated. We thought to provide some tips to help your kids create unforgettable memories, and you too, of course.
Noses riveted to the screen in a cardboard drive-in!
Are you a little discouraged to see your children with their noses pressed to small screens? Offer them a new creative game that requires only cardboard boxes. ask them to invite their friends, but everyone will have to make a car out of cardboard and decorate it to taste. This makes for a busy day. In preparation for the big night, you will allow them to move, create, and develop team work skills. A movie night full of anticipation. Memories that they will have them talking for a long time. Of course, serve popcorn and soft drinks. Why not include yourself? Or even prepare a wicket at the entrance to collect a small donation to offer to a cause, or as a prize for the most beautiful car. Your imagination is the limit, and we bet you cannot resist the urge to build yourself a car with a bench seat for two. 😉
One night camping in the backyard with a cardboard shelter
A popular memory for children, is the first night sleeping in a tent outside. Obviously, according to the age of children, we suggest a progressive project that combines the preparation, and the experience of a night under the stars. You already know the children’s enthusiasm for small spaces (it is almost the same phenomenon as cats), they love the feeling of security and control of their environment. With youger kids, you can already build cardboard houses that can be transported from home to the outside, and for use as shelter from sunlight in the playground. If the option of sleeping outside was possible, the kids would love it.
With the older children and Lego buffs, suggest the construction of a project whose material is cardboard. An igloo or a cardboard dome are more architecturally daring projects, but they will also have the advantage of being able to transform their creation into an observatory to watch the sky, if camping is not possible, this may be a way for letting them sleep under the stars. Recreational and educational activities that will take them a little away from their screen… well, this can be a condition for letting them sleep under the stars. An experience that they will remember a long time is guaranteed!
Other stimulating ideas created from cardboard boxes
Another way that you can entertain children, is to suggest that they reconstruct the world of their video games with a world of cardboard. Epic wars with cardboard castles, obstacle courses with boxes, intergalactic tunnels built with tubes or cardboard boxes, giant games of Angry Birds or Super Mario, soap box racing. The list is as big as their imagination. No need to spend a big budget to entertain children. The age of electronic games is a real poison for imagination and creativity (see our article on the benefits of tinkering with family), simply encourage creativity and family interaction.
